Colts Safety Sanders ready to play against Rams

On the Indianapolis Colts injury report Wednesday, safety Bob Sanders’ name was not seen. Having not played in a game since January, the 2007 NFL defensive player of the year will participate in most of the team’s practice work this week and is expected to make his season debut in Colts jersey this Sunday at St. Louis.

After having a surgery on his right knee, Sanders has missed all of training camp, all the preseason and the first month of the regular season, and it is not the first time the 5-0 Colts has indicated Sanders could play. The two-time Pro Bowl safety returned to practice the week before last week and traveled with the team to Nashville for the Oct. 11 game. But he eventually did not play in the game as the Colts opted to hold him out.

Other players who are expected to return this week includes starting cornerback Kelvin Hayden, who missed the last three games with a left hamstring injury, and left tackle Charlie Johnson, who sat out the Tennessee game with a left knee injury.
