According to the Detroit Free Press, the Silverdome, which is the venerable former home of the Detroit Lions, is on bid to be auctioned now. Anyone who wants to buy the building can visit the stadium before Nov. 12.
Pontiac Emergency Financial Manager Fred Leeb told reporters that the suburban Detroit city is excited about the upcoming sale. Since the Lions left in 2002 to move to Ford Field in Detroit, Pontiac has tried repeatedly to sell the 80,000-seat domed stadium, which stands on 127 acres, and it costs the city about $1.5 million annually to maintain the empty structure.
The auction without minimum bid is to be conducted by the Tulsa, Okla.-based Williams & Williams. Buyers can send sealed bids before Nov. 12 and are required of a $250,000 deposit for a tour to the facility.
