The Indianapolis Colts may start some kind of negotiation with agent of a free agent middle linebacker, Gary Brackett, who is turning 30 year old in 2010 but hopes to wear the Colts jerseys for a few more years before he retires.
"When you have a situation with Gary’s presence in the locker room, what he means to the community, that he’s been fortunate to play in two Super Bowls, won a ton of games, it’s a great opportunity, a great place for Gary to finish," Brackett’s agent Brian Mackler said. "But it’s really up to Bill and I to get this thing done."
Mackler may have a lot of things to do as the Colts traditionally do no keep free agent linebackers back and had given up linebackers like Mike Peterson, Marcus Washington, David Thornton and Cato June. Perhaps Brackett and his agent may have to give up some benefit in order to stay in Indianapolis and could expect a smaller contract than his expiring four-year, $10.1-million deal.
