After losing five consecutive games, the Ottawa Senators finally managed to end the losing streak and had a thumping win since March 11’s 0-2 loss to the Calgary Flames, adding another dent in the Canadiens’ upward momentum following the Toronto Maple Leafs, who ended the Canadiens’ winning streak with last Saturday’s 3-2 overtime victory.
“It feels great, obviously the two points, but even more I think the way we played,” said Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson, who assisted on both goals. “The way Elliott played was huge for us. I mean that gave us a lot of confidence, and I thought we played really well in front of him as well and really put a lot of pressure on them.”
The other two major contributors were goaltender Brian Elliott, in NO. 3 Senators jersey and defense Erik Karlsson, in No. 65. Elliott made 29 saves for his fourth shutout and Karlsson had a goal and an assist. The victory was the team’s second one since the Olympic break. The last time after the Senators ended a five-game losing streak from Jan. 5-12, the team started a franchise-record 11-game winning streak on its way to winning 13 of 15 prior to the break.
