Reporters have been somewhat silent about the possibility of New Orleans Saints signing free agent linebacker Clint Ingram since safety Darren Sharper wore back his New Orleans Saints jersey with a new one-year contract. It seemed that Ingram-Saints deal ended up with nothing reached as Sharper’s visit to the Jacksonville Jaguars, Ingram’s former team, ended with the safety’s return to New Orleans.
However, there has not been an end to Ingram’s relation with the Saints. According to reports, the Saints still made an offer to Ingram after Sharper’s return and they are still waiting for a final decision from the linebacker, who said that he needed some time for considering the offer. Since the Jaguars had withdrawn their tender offer to Ingram, the restricted free agent is now unrestricted and can join any team he likes most. The defending champion team Saints is obviously one of his top choices.
The Saints are still in lack of a qualified starting outside linebacker since Scott Fujita left for the Cleveland Browns during free agency. They have been looking for an veteran with starting experience, and Ingram, who started 12 games for the Jaguars last year, is definitely the best choice available on market.
