As star wide receiver Wes Welker was placed on IR with a knee injury suffered during the season finale against the Houston Texans, rookie receiver Julian Edelman will start for the New England Patriots against the Baltimore Ravens in the first round of the AFC playoff game on Sunday night.
As the one he replaced led the NFL with 123 receptions, Edelman is surely facing the biggest test since he put on NFL jersey as a seventh-round draft pick out of Kent State. Will he be able to lead the Patriots to advance past the first round and to the Super Bowl? Will he be able to give goo enough performance to be worthy being chosen as the replacement to one of the best receivers of the league? What if the rookie answers all the questions with “Yes”!
The biggest concern is experience. Edelman played quarterback in College and turned to wide receiver after joining the Patriots. But he has already started two games as replacement to Welker earlier this season and took Welker’s job in the season finale after the starter left field because of injury. Hopefully his postseason debut will be wonderful.
